In 1987, Kenny went to work for Cherokee County, starting in the Building Department. He later moved to Planning and Zoning were he was able to leverage his problem solving and innovative skills to implement measures mitigating issues with the State of Georgia. In 2004, he became the Development Inspection Manager and in 2009 was awarded Cherokee County Employee of the Year.
Kenny and Lisa married in 1986. Their son, Tyler, was born in 1986 and their girl, Lauren, in 1992. Kenny coached Cherokee County youth sports for 15 years. He was on the Board of Directors at Dizzy Dean, Director for Holly Springs Basketball, Director of Kenny Askew Park, and Vice President of the Cherokee High School Basketball Booster Club.
